PROBLEM :
A Language barrier between generations starts to emerge from the influence of other cultures.
MISSION :
As oppose to blaming the language barrier between generations when communicating, how might we celebrate the difference in language while encouraging both generations to adapt.
ANALYSIS :
For this project, I recorded observations on and conducted my interviews with Filipino families. How two generations, specifically baby boomers and millennials, within the same family talk to each other in their native language. Even though the younger generation is more influenced by American culture, they still respond to and respect their native language and culture. Filipinos are very prideful when it comes to their culture. Outside of language, one major way to Filipinos represent the culture is the traditional textile and prints of the Philippines. Nowadays, they use those prints as clothing, tattoos, house items etc.
PROPOSE SOLUTION :
How might we explore and celebrate the communication of each generation using traditional visualization.
